Welcome to KSC's Official Web-Source!
Talisman has been closed since late last season and is in the process of being sold. It is not clear whether the resort will operate in the current 2011-2012 ski season and Kimberley Ski Club racers are skiing at other areas, mostly Blue Mountain and Beaver Valley. During this season KSC will stay active by running member social activities and publishing its newsletter "Launchpad". With its committed membership and Executive, KSC will be prepared to start racing at Talisman when it reopens.
Skiing is a lifelong sport that can be enjoyed by people of every age and level of ability. However, for many children and teens who have mastered the basics of the sport there comes a time when "going up and down the same old hill" loses its novelty.
Ski racing in a team environment brings a structure to the sport which encourages children and teens to maintain their enthusiasm over the long term. Not only do our young racers develop superb technical skiing skills, they also learn about ski safety, teamwork, cooperation and goalsetting within a supportive environment of friends, family and coaches. The involvement of our club parents as volunteers for team management and race hosting means that children, teens and parents can spend their winter weekends actively participating together in a sport which they all enjoy. Many of our young racers have grown up in the club, starting as kindergarten pre-racers and continuing through their teens, and then remaining involved with the Club as coaches and parents of the next generation of racers.
